Route 395 north from down near Vegas on up has some pretty areas, its a looong drive we made recently to visit Mom in Southern Cal. 2nd week of November there may or may not be snow, hard to say yet. We stopped in Bishop for lunch.

Side trips from Reno I would recommend would be to Lake Tahoe and Truckee and Virginia City. Best bang for hotels in Reno could depend on what you are looking for, El Dorado and Silver Legacy are usually nice, the Nugget and Grand Sierra are further away from the main downtown area but are nice as well. Did you also post on the Lake Tahoe forum? We haven%26#39;t stayed over there in a long time, but that time of year I%26#39;d probably stay in South Shore.

Sorry, don%26#39;t know what the $20-$50 trick is so can%26#39;t comment on that.

The $20-$50 trick is tipping the checkin clerk, you put a bill between you license and credit card, and ask for a comp upgrade, in Vegas I went from a $65 night room to a Fansasy Suite, same price for 5 nights so it cost me another $10 a night for a $300 + room, it%26#39;s very old hat to deo in Vegas, it is done and almost expected by some check in people, G.

Actually in Reno (%26amp; most places) I find asking politely worked better including Vegas. Last Xmas Eve we went from a standard room at the Paris in Vegas to a spa suite for $90 a night for three nights simply by being polite.

I agree that asking politely is the best way to go. I%26#39;ve gotten some great upgrades, no charge.
