Taxi Cabs & Credit Cards

Here in NY taxi cabs take both credit/debit cards. Whats the deal in Vegas? Im going on business and it would be easier to submit a statement and not risk losing all of my reciepts.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Taxi Cabs %26amp; Credit Cards

Good ol%26#39; greenbacks are all they accept. No plastic, no traveler%26#39;s checks. That%26#39;s probably something that will and should change in a year or so, but not yet.

Taxi Cabs %26amp; Credit Cards

Cruiser is correct. Those credit card machines haven%26#39;t appeared as yet in Vegas taxis and they%26#39;re just about the only folks in town who won%26#39;t entertain a travelers check.

I heard a rumor that they were testing a credit card system but considering that the expense of rolling our the system and having to deal with fees to credit card companies on each transaction, I can understand why they make not be in a hurry to roll something out while fuel prices are high.

Actually, I have been in two Vegas cabs just last month which had credit/debit card units in the back seat. They%26#39;re not widely available in all cabs but they do exist.

Be warned that there is a surcharge to use these machines. There was fine-print on both of the units I saw that gave you this surcharge warning. I can%26#39;t remember what the charge was but I know it turned me off to the idea of using them.

Desert cabs accept credit cards.

I happened upon a credit card cab out of the airport. I didn%26#39;t really need one with credit card, but I used it anyway. The (very helpful) cabbie told me out of all the cabs in Vegas, only 26 currently have credit card readers. At the airport, they will put you at the last pick-up stall until one shows up. If you need one out of a hotel, you%26#39;re probably going to have to make a call to get one out to you.

OK, I guess I stand corrected, thanks for the updates. Even if some do now accept plastic, I have a thing about paying ';service fees'; on transactions like that. I can renew the license plate sticker for my car on-line, but the state charges a fee, so I stick a 42c stamp on it and mail them a check, which actually requires more human handling and increases their labor cost. Duh! Anyhow, in Vegas I have learned to micro-manage my budget, so there%26#39;s always cash left over for the trip back to the airport. But I could see if you lost your shirt and only have a few bucks left in usable funds with your Visa!

I agree about the fees, but if it%26#39;s a company sponsored trip the little extra they won%26#39;t mind. Especially with book keeping and audits the way they are the company would rather reimburse American Express they write a check directly to you.
