Going to Las Vegas and Need Advice!

Going to Las Vegas for the first time ever with our family, in mid October and have a lot of questions ...

We are staying at The Signature at MGM.

Any suggestions on the following:

1. Where can we find good, reasonable priced places to eat?

2. What are the prices for drinks?

3. Are there good places to shop at?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Not sure what you mean by reasonable prices, but Margarittaville, Toby Keith%26#39;s, and the Harley Cafe are good and not too expensive.

Drinks are free if you%26#39;re gambling.

You need to be a bit more specific.

What does ';resonable'; priced food mean to you? What type of food do you like? What do you drink? What are you looking to buy?

1. Food options in all price ranges abound. For example the hotels all have their own all you can eat buffets ranging from about $15 a head in the cheaper hotels like Excalibur, to about $35 in the Bellagio - you get what you pay for, but even at the cheaper end its there%26#39;s something for everyone, its just you wouldn%26#39;t get dressed up to go there. So the answer to the question of ';where'; the answer is ';almost any place you care to look';

2. Drinks again range from $1 bottles of beer and $1 frozen Margeritas in plastic that many people glug as they walk the strip to prices you may be more accustomed to pay. Hotel bars like NYNY or Paris I think a glass of wine is about $4, same for a Sam Adams or similar - not too bad. Posher bars, bigger tabs I guess, but I have no first hand experience of that

3. So far as the Strip goes, there is a big Mall with all the usual suspects just next to Treasure Island. There are also great shops in many hotels, particularly Caesars Palace. Hotels like Bellagio and Venetian have shops but they tend to specialise in higher end fashion, footwear and jewellery

What I always say about Las Vegas is that it is only your gambling budget you need take care with. As the city runs off gambling, it makes sure everything else, food, drink, hotel rooms etc are the best value (in my view) of any North American city. You can spend a lot, for sure, but if you do you%26#39;ll generally get a lot.

I got married there on my first visit (it was planned) and I can remember that uncertain position you%26#39;re in, but believe me it is quite a wonderous place. The most abiding striking memory I had was just how ';nice'; the Strip was, not seedy or dangerous or cheap, just clean and nice with loads and loads of things to do even if (like me) gambling does nothing for you

I like Ontario too, by the way

IF you can afford the Signature , WHY are you worried about prices for food, etc.

Unfortunately over the past several years the major hotel/casino corporations have found that they can ahve their cake and eat it too....that is, they no longer discount rooms or food as much as they used to...as loss leaders to get people into the casinos. Today revenues from rooms and restaurants actually exceed gambling revenue at many places.

Still, there are the occasional deals...especially at the smaller places. Ellis Is. Casino has a $4.95 (I think it is still this) Steak Dinner that is not on the menu. You have to ask for it. The ';Coffee Shops'; at most hotels are often a bargain with surprisingly good food for a lot less than the fancy restaurants. Most also have late night specials (around mid-night) intended for employees but available to everyone. Always ask about ';off-menu'; specials. Coupons abound too...lots of 2-for-1 deals. Las Vegas Advisor dot com has a great coupon book as part of their on-line membership with several coupons that more than pay for the membership.

It%26#39;s sort of sad but the high end restaurants tend to be artificially high priced. Possibly so that the high rollers getting comped meals feel they are getting more ';value';.

Drink specials abound...aside from the free (plus tip) drinks while gambling. Lots of $1 drinks or coupon specials.

Another shopping venue at Planet Hollywood is the Miracle Mile shops...about 130 stores.

Lots of places to eat reasonably priced food. Off strip places are all reasonably priced- Chinatown is very reasonably priced. MGM Grand also has some dining options in which aren%26#39;t too expensive- but please never eat at Studio Wok!

Malls also have lots of places to eat, such as the Fashion Show Mall. Forum shops area also worth a visit, and have many restaurants there as well.

Cheap but good buffets would include the Harrah%26#39;s Flavors buffet. A little bit more expensive would be the Mirage Cravings buffet. And if you want to go all out, go to the Wynn or Bellagio buffets.

It would kind of depend on what you call reasonably priced. People from the UK typically say the Wynn is very affordable and not expensive as the food quality is high, and compared to their area, the food is not as expensive.

Thank you very much to everyone that responded to our questions. Your advice and help is greatly appreciated.

This will be a very different type of vacation for us and we really did not know what to expect ..... although we are looking forward Vegas!!!

Thank You Again.

My daughter and I really enjoyed the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. And located directly across Harmon from The Signature.

The Signature has a small cafe in Tower 2 that is very good. Have eaten lunch there a few times. They are now serving food by the Tower 2 pool. My son said the breakfast poolside was much better than the MGM Buffet. But since you will either have a full kitchen or kitchenette at The Signature I would recommend you get a few items from the grocery store so you can enjoy light meals or snacks in your Suite. I love having my coffee and breakfast without having to leave the Suite.

And my favorite place to eat is Toby%26#39;s at Harrah%26#39;s. Take the monorail from the MGM and you will pass by Toby%26#39;s when you exit at Harrah%26#39;s. They have a good selection. I have never had a bad meal at Toby%26#39;s.

where do you get the $1 margaritas to glug on the strip? we are going in late oct and that sounds like something i can afford and would like to do! so can you just walk in, order a drink and walk out on the street with your drink or do you have to ask for the plastic??

99c margaritas are to be had at Bill%26#39;s - they come in a small plastic cup but are reasonably strong, make sure you give good stir or the first suck will be pure alcohol!

And you can walk up the strip with open containers of alcohol quite happily although i believe someone on here maintained that it is still illegal even in Paradise. If so, it is not enforced.
