Money Question :)

Hey Guys. I really am totally clueless about how much cash Im gonna need to bring to Las Vegas. Ive never been before!

Me and my partner are going at the start of October for 7 nights. We are going to two shows but they are already paid for and not coming out of our spending allowance!

We are bringing $2000 each. My partner wants to a little more gambling than me and I wanna do a lot more shopping than him! Is this enough. He will probably still only spend about $100 a day gambling and altogether I wnn spend $600 or so on clothes!

We like to go for nice meals-not crazy expensive but we are expecting to pay $120-$150 for dinner at night. Are we on the right track?

Money Question :)

Money is so personal - we all have different thresholds and budgets

First, as far as gambling, many will say something like ';gamble no more than you can afford to lose'; I disagree and think it is no more than you are WILLING to lose. Many can afford to lose much more than they are willing.

I also don%26#39;t think anyone should be gambling who has one cent of debt other than a primary home mortgage. If you owe on a car, loans, credit cards - why gamble?

As far as 2K for 7 nights, you certainly can make it work and have a great trip.

Some will spend less than $50 a day and others more than $5k.

You know your budget and can and will make spending decisions based on that budget.

Enjoy

Money Question :)

bridgefan 1 -----is probably right about debt and gambling. But that would leave every one out that only owes a house morgage, ninety nine percent of the posts are all working people and for sure most owe on there credit cards and charge there trip and expenses on it.He is also right spend what you can afford

Something that works well for us is to only get out several hundred $$ a day, or however much you%26#39;re comfortable with spending in 1 day %26amp; leave the rest in the safe. That%26#39;ll give you a good idea of how much you can splurge the next day.

If you try not to take cabs everywhere, you%26#39;ll save a few hundred bucks. Try to plan so you do everything downtown in 1 day, everything at 1 end of the strip 1 day, etc.

You can definitely do it; have a great time!

Gamble what you can afford to lose.

If only those who didnt owe more then one cent in debt can only go to LV the city would be a ghost town, also it%26#39;s the rich who usually owe more money then the smaller less income people.

Personally I dont think $2000 is enough for 4 nights let alone 7 nights. That only gives you $258

per day or per night how ever you look at it to spend.

for my husband and i that would be the budget for 2 people for 4 days. however...we don%26#39;t fancy $150 meals and we do stay at a reasonably priced hotel (the orleans). we always come home with at least $500-1,000...depending how lucky we are, but NEVER bet over our $100/day per person allowance no matter what. we have a wonderful time, eat well, drink more than we should and generally have a ball!

where are you staying and is the hotel paid for? as everyone else said...it all depends on budget and preferences. in answer to your question...yes, i think you have the budget to have a good time! have fun!

ooops....i want to be clear that $2000 our budget (after hotel and airfare) for 2 people.

Hi, I%26#39;m going to Vegas next week and taking $2100 for the 7 nights/ $300 a day.

We have the hotel and airfare as well as Mystere and Tournament of Kings prebooked and paid for. We also have some free stuff thrown in with the hotel deal including $30 dining credit and a couple of 2 for 1%26#39;s.

I%26#39;m not really a gambler and will be taking advantage of the free slot play bonuses for signing up to various players cards and maybe up to $100 a day if I feel like it.

We%26#39;ll maybe go for a nice meal out at Rosemarys (weds ladies get 50% off) and a Thai place but apart from that will probably stick to buffets/ diners and deli type meals.

Read up on free stuff to do like the afternoon shows etc and the less expensive casinos like Bills for a $3 beer.

I%26#39;ve been a bit panicky about how much to take but when I%26#39;ve thought about it I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;ll be an absolutely fine budget for an average non extravagant person.

My husband and I easily manage on $250 day (total) for meals and gambling. We don%26#39;t spend much on food because we don%26#39;t go to fancy restaurants. I think you can have a great time in Vegas no matter what your budget.

That budget should be just fine. Maybe even a little high depending on how restaurants are selected and if gambling is limited to $100/day. Out of $100 a day remember that some days may ( you hope) come out ahead meaning pocketing the difference and use that $100 the next day...so instead of $700 spent it might only be $400-500.

Avoiding the crazy expensive rockstar chef restaurants can really work well. There are plenty of very nice alternatives where you don%26#39;t have to pay for the name.

On the other hand one expense to plan for will be the constant drain of tips. A dollar or two here and there add up. Such as for drinks while playing...the drinks are free but service level and repeat orders will depend on tip level ($1-2). Free shuttles between casinos are a great savings but do tip the driver a couple dollars...especially if they are helpful with info. Pretty much anyone who does a service for you will expect a gratuity. Some are small (like above) and some are typically a precentage of the bill such as at a restaurant. The restaurant ones I figure into my dining budget but it%26#39;s the little ';hidden'; ones that can add up each day. Not begrudging the hard working people this important part of their income...just acknowleding it is another expense.

the amount doesn%26#39;t matter as much as how you allocate it.

i always like to make an envelope for each day. if i were you i would throw $250 in each envelope and just spend that. put anything you have left at the end of a day in the envelope and don%26#39;t touch it. if you win 2 out of 7 days you%26#39;ll have something to take back with you and start your next vegas trip fund.

whatever you have left after your dining and shopping you can spend gambling. if its only $25 play penny slots, if it turns out to be $150 play quarter video poker.
