Signature MGM for first timer?

I am trying to plan a suprise trip for my husband over xmas. Will probably suprise him with the news xmas morning, take a flight out later that day. There are a few shows we both want to see, plus I%26#39;m hoping to get UFC92 tickets when they go on sale.

Neither of us have been to vegas before. I was planning to book the Sig since it\s gotten such great reviews on here, and is still within our price range. Everyone on TA seems to share the view that one should stay on the strip for their first visit. However, I like the idea of being in a non-gaming hotel (in my head I picture being in a casino hotel as being very noisy, and we like our quiet, plus hubby has trouble sleeping at night if he hears ANYTHING!) and a non-smoking hotel. We are both 30, don%26#39;t mind walking at all (well, as long as we can get to most places within 30 min, otherwise might take a cab), and I%26#39;m sure we will go out and see and do lots on the strip, but like being able to come back someplace relaxing.

So, with all that said (for those of you who read through all my rambling!), do you think the Sig would suit us, or do you have better ideas for a quiet place actually on the strip that doesn%26#39;t cost too much more? Thanks for the help!

Signature MGM for first timer?

From what you have said your requirements are, I think the Sig would be perfect for you! That%26#39;s a great Christmas Present - have a wonderful time!

Signature MGM for first timer?

Sounds great according to what you said and what you need! The other big non-casino hotel is the Four Seasons, which is in the Mandalay Bay. But that probably would be way more expensive then your Signature rate.

The Sig is too remote for a first timer. I stayed there once and won%26#39;t stay there again.

Any nice hotel is quiet in the rooms. MGM is actually quiet place. The only noisy hotel I%26#39;ve stayed in is Bill%26#39;s. I think you%26#39;ll like Mirage better than Signature. I know I did.

I liked the look of the signature when I was planning my trip to vegas but after being there I was glad i didn%26#39;t choose it. It was just a little out of the way. We stayed at Ceasars in the Augustus tower rooms. We booked a hot deal on harrahs.com (at the top of the homepage) don%26#39;t know how expensive it would be for when you want to go though. Our room was silent on a night. It was really lovely too. I wouldn%26#39;t stay in a normal room at Caesars though as they look a bit dingy. Our view was of the Bellagio fountains. It was like a dream come true. We went in all of the hotels. The best in my opinion were Palazzo, Wynn and Caesars. These all seemed like they were in a good location within walking distance of most things. Mandalay Bay seemed too far out in my opinion and I didn%26#39;t like MGM. We nearly booked it but when we were there thought the area was a little scruffier down the bottom end of the strip. I was really tempted by signature because of the size of the rooms and facilities but honestly I was really glad I booked Caesars instead. You get so sick of walking everywhere I think that the Sig would just about have killed us off!

Hope this helps.

Have a great time wherever you stay.

We are going there on the 22nd. We chose it for the very reasons you say. We are also first timers and having a strip view is all well and good but after the first few minutes you%26#39;ll probably not bother! I don%26#39;t care about the walk to the strip, by all accounts it only takes five or ten minutes! If you don%26#39;t need to make a decision straight away I%26#39;ll report back when we return.

we%26#39;ve stayed there a couple of times and love it. Yes it will take you 10 minutes to get to the strip but we like the fact its a bit out of the way. Also i%26#39;ve never stayed in a nicer smelling hotel (no smoke) and I%26#39;m a smoker!

wish my misses would suprise me with something like that ! Dont forget to look on VRBO. We%26#39;ve got our room half price for our trip in a couple of weeks

Mad (you must be to support spurs, sorry im a gooner!) we are there on the 24th, you will love it.

It sounds like exactly what you are looking for. Despite what some of the naysayers say, it is only a 5 - 10 minute walk to get to the strip..and most of that is thru a casino. That is short walk by vegas standards. Since it sounds like you are not lazy and dont mind a short walk, I think it would be perfect. We are looking forward to our stay in 7 long weeks!

Go for it. It takes time to get to the strip from most hotels and casinos as they are so big.

I will be staying at the Sig for my first time early Oct.

You will get you%26#39;re fill of Vegas just being there. It will be nice to have a nice ';retreat'; from the hustle and bustle. You will see.

Have fun. Do it !

We just got back early this morning and stayed at the Signature for the first time. Compared to all of the other places we have stayed, I would say that it was just alright. It is a long walk from the Strip but the rooms and hotel itself are beautiful. We loved the free weight room, free bottled water, the huge bathrooms and the balcony. The kitchenette also came in handy for us too. The tower pool was nothing fancy but if it%26#39;s that important to you, then you can use the MGM one for free instead(it%26#39;s only a 2- 3 minute walk from the Signature towers).

Overall, I think that the location is the worst feature of this hotel, but other than that it is excellent. If you really don%26#39;t mind walking a lot then the Signature will be perfect for your surprise trip :-)
