steakhouse not in casino

We are looking for a steakhouse, not too expensive for a family birthday celebration during our trip in Sept. to Reno. We prefer not to eat in casino or in a chain place. there will be about 8 adults.

You might try Ruby River on South Virginia right across the street from the Peppermill (but not affiliated with it). This is not a national chain but it is a small chain of 10 restaurants in NV, UT, and ID. If you%26#39;re from WI, this might be new to you. The atmosphere is Old West and family-oriented. If you go, try the baked sweet potato - awesome! http://www.rubyriver.com/

thanks! A couple in our group from S.F. will be staying at peppermill, so that%26#39;s perfect. We visit every other year to see older family members and usually stay with them or in nearby condo. So, we usually eat at their home to avoid the crowds with them. We can%26#39;t miss a trip to In %26amp; Out burger though. When we gamble, we%26#39;re at peppermill, but rarely eat out. I think we%26#39;ll give this a try.

Our favorite Reno restaurant is the ';http://www.rapscallion.com/ a seafood %26amp; Steak/Chop restaurant. Aged steaks %26amp; wonderful prime rib. We recently celebrated our 10th anniversary there.

The Escargot with Roquefort is incredible. We had the Half stuffed lobster %26amp; prime rib both excellent with a good Cesare salad %26amp; the for mentioned escargot.

Agree with Peddler on Rapscallion. For some reason, I thought you might have kids but if not, Rapscallion is a bit more formal than Ruby River. You%26#39;ll get decent food at either place, depends on what type of atmosphere you want.

Two excellent choices! Maybe we%26#39;ll have to try them both while we%26#39;re in town! Kids - no, but dogs have done fair bit of traveling and eating in restaurants too. That would be ideal but they%26#39;l stay home this time. Bummed we%26#39;l miss the rib fest this year but hopefully will catch the end of the balloon races on Sund. thanks for the wonderful suggestions and I%26#39;ll report back.

We%26#39;re just back from our visit so here is an update -We were headed to Rapscallion for sunday brunch but headed to the balloon races instead. Then, we got comped for dinner at a local casino so that took care of our birthday celebration. So, in the end, we never made it to either place, but drove by Ruby River for next trip (maybe March). We also received free air show tickets for friday - Wow! If you have never been, it is not to be missed. The airforce thunderbirds were out of this world! Weather was nice and hot - just the way we like it! Thanks again for all the advice!
