Grand Canyon South Rim

Hi there, I%26#39;m taking my wife to LV for the first time and she wants to go to the GC. Having been there last June I wasn%26#39;t that bothered but then I discovered I only went to the West Rim which, by all accounts is not that great and not typical. So%26#39; I%26#39;ve been checking out TA and the general consensus seems to be to go to the South Rim which I%26#39;m happy to do but it takes a large chunk out of my precious time in LV. The Grand Canyon Tour Company offers to get you there and back in 7.5 hours which doesn%26#39;t seem too bad (flying out of LV). Does anyone know whether they%26#39;re any good? The reviews I%26#39;ve found date back to last year and are mixed. I need some positive recommendations if they%26#39;re out there.

Grand Canyon South Rim

Hi Coursewizard, you don%26#39;t say how long you have in LV. If you%26#39;ve got the time, go on the Overnight deluxe tour with Papillon. We went on this tour last month and found it to be very well organised and well worth the money. You fly by plane to the south rim and then board a bus for a guided tour of the best view points. You will then have 3 or 4 hours to explore the area at your leisure before you are taken to your accomodation for the evening, which is in the Grand Canyon village.

The tour is very relaxing and you don%26#39;t feel as if you are being rushed about to see everything in a short space of time.

We recommend this tour and thought it was great value for our money.

Grand Canyon South Rim

Not sure how precious your time is in LV, but I would try to spend as much time as possible in the GCNP. Once you get there you%26#39;ll realize why we tell folks to go there and not the %26#39;west rim%26#39;. It%26#39;s a whole different world, and you and your wife will want to stay longer. Take the over night trip if you dare, otherwise focus on a day trip that maximizes your time inside the park at the South Rim.

Check Scenic Airlines. They are an actual flight provider, not a tour company. The same applies for Grand Canyon Airlines.

Thanks guys. We%26#39;re in Vegas for six nights, or 5 full days, and an overnighter is not really an option. I checked out scenic but don%26#39;t they fly out of boulder city? Any ideas on anyone who flies out of LV airport?

Boulder City is only a short bus journey from LV.

I know it%26#39;s not far to Boulder City but I took that journey last June and got stuck on the motorway/freeway for over an hour %26#39;cos there was an accident. Yes it%26#39;s unlikely that lightening would strike twice but given that we%26#39;re staying at the Mandalay Bay I thought it would be much quicker to fly out of the main airport.

Ask how much time you actually have at the Canyon with the tour. So many of the tours give you little more than a glimpse, in some instances as little as a half hour. I hate to hear when people invest the time and money only to feel shortchanged and rushed.

The major flight providers, Scenic Airlines and Grand Canyon Airlines, both fly out of Boulder City. No tour of which I am aware originates at the Las Vegas International airport.

%26lt;%26lt;an overnighter is not really an option%26gt;%26gt; Excuse me, but it would be an option if you gave as much priority to your wife%26#39;s desire to see Grand Canyon as to your wish to spend your precious time in LV.

You should tske her and spend the night. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how much you both enjoy it. Here%26#39;s the lodging link for the South Rim http://www.grandcanyonlodges.com The NPS webpage for GCNP is http://www.nps.gov/grca
