Skiing at Lake Tahoe

We are planning a February trip 3-10 to South Lake Tahoe and are planning to ski. We have reservations at Harveys. The only problem is I can%26#39;t seem to find transportation to Alpine Meadows and Northstar Ski Resorts from Harveys. Does anyone have any ideas?

Call Harvey%26#39;s direct. I think they have a shuttle to Kirkwood if I%26#39;m not mistaken which is a great resort.

Yikes. Both Alpine and Northstar are horrendous drives away from south shore in the wintertime. You%26#39;d have to go all the way around the north shore to get to either one, as the south shore route closes after the first good snowfall. It%26#39;s too difficult/dangerous to plow that part of the road! Theoretically, you COULD get to Northstar or Alpine from south shore, but you%26#39;d need to take the TART bus to Incline Village (probably a 45- to 60-minute trip in snowy weather), then catch one of the free shuttles from the Hyatt in Incline to the ski resorts (figure about another hour to Northstar, and a bit longer to Alpine because of the road conditions and stopping along the way to pick up other riders). LONG time in a bus, switching out your ski gear/backpacks/lunchbags.

You may wish to consider splitting up your trip - spend half your time staying in the south shore at Harveys, then move out to the Truckee area, so you can try out Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley and Northstar from there. Free shuttles run daily to the ski areas out of Truckee.

The only real transportation to Northstar would be via the ski shuttle on the Tahoe Queen. They take you up to Northstar via bus and bring you back on the big paddle wheel ship the Tahoe Queen.

I%26#39;m the head concierge for Harveys and Harrahs. If you should have any further questions I can be reached at rheffelfinger@harrahs.com

There are a ski shuttle from Heavenly to Squaw, if you can do that instead of Alpine, that runs on Wed %26amp; Fri. That means you could stay at Heavenly and then shuttle to Squaw for a change of pace:

Also check this out from this past winter for more info:

As with any of the previous posts, be aware that Northstar, Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley are all on the OTHER side of the lake from south shore - and if the weather%26#39;s bad, the trip on the Tahoe Queen will be frigid, and all buses, taxis and other shuttles will be S-L-0-W going.

February can be our heaviest snow month, as well; meaning road conditions are slippery at best - white out conditions at worst.

Thanks for the help. It was appreciated. The latest is that we are getting one of the six pack of lift tickets and skiing at Heavenly two days, Squaw two days, and Sierra one day. WE think we have found bus transportation to go to those. Hope we are not overwhelmed by all the snow on the roads in Feb. Thanks again!

Have you considered renting a car?

I did think that probably renting a car would be a good idea in Lake T^ahoe but my husband waswn%26#39;t for the idea....so we will settle for the bus transportation they have.....I can%26#39;t wait to ski the area!
