Airline Baggage Charges - Fallout effects after arrival

We are planning to pack at least two less bags for our next trip due to the new (silly) airline charges for extra bags (or even the 1st bag on airlines we will never fly on again).

But the thought has occured to me that there will be some downstream effects after arrival in LV...

1. Baggage carousels not as crowded with bags

2. LARGER bags dumping on the the carousel

3. More room in taxi trunks

4. Bellhops getting less total tips because they are tipped per bag...same for cab drivers from people who adjust tipping for that

5. More room in the room due to fewer bags laying around

6. More room in the baggage storage rooms...faster retrieval and less chance of loss?

7. Much heavier bags on average...right at the 50lb limit instead of two 25lb bags.

8. Larger carry-on bags...right at their limit too?

9. Fewer people packing ';formal'; (whatever that is anymore) clothes to save space

10. Taxis maybe getting better mileage with less luggage weight

Any other fallout from the airline luggage charges?

How about shorter trips. Can%26#39;t pack everything I need for 7 days in one bag. so I now have to go for less time.

Airline Baggage Charges - Fallout effects after arrival

Very true.

In fact on East Fremont Street people are often seen wearing the same clothes for days on end and little of it is “formal”.

I actually traveled light when I was in Vegas for 3 nights and 2 days in August. It being summer, I wore thinner clothes and rinsed out and ironed up a shirt for future use with no trouble. Then again I was solo with no one to dazzle with my elegance.

Face it, no matter how well you pack, you still end up unpacking stuff on the other end with the sure knowledge that you will never wear it once you get there. The trick is finding out just what that is ahead of time.

Don%26#39;t forget the major affect this will have on retail shops in Las Vegas. Who wants to pay baggage charges to bring back Vegas souvenirs?

I can see it now: Dollar Days at Chanel or BOGO at Rolex. How will the Las Vegas economy survive!

Sequim88, eventually all of the US based airlines are going to charge for checked luggage so must mean you%26#39;ll stop traveling if you have to pay for checking your luggage. A lot of airlines tack on surcharges, this saves them from raising fairs, but it is their way to do just that, only thing is, we have a choice in the matter, at least for the moment.

You must be referring to USAIR,in any case it is obnoxious that we have to pay for baggage.Being naive I thought that the $15 charge would be it, not understanding that there is another charge on the return flight,I guess they got me coming and going....I know that I should have figured that out on my own but....Worse yet, we were charged $17 as the checkin was curbside at McCarron.

Curbside check in fees are not the airlines doing, they have nothing to do with it. Most airports in the US are now charging $2 per bag for curbside check in. Those people have to make a living and when they did it for free a lot of people were too cheap to tip at all or decently.

2 LESS bags! How many bags did you used to pack?

carry-on

It%26#39;s easy to do, even for weeks in Europe. A legal sized carry-on and 1 personal item under the seat (if needed at all) is plenty.

Learn to dress and pack efficiently and you won%26#39;t have to worry about 2 less bags.

It%26#39;s also quicker - no waiting for luggage, and if by chance you are on a direct flight or making a connection instead of a non-stop flight, you always have your luggage in case of re-routes or delays.

If we need formalwear we ship it ahead of time

The curbside check-in fees DO NOT go to the skycaps, at least not at LAS.

I would not say that there is more room in taxi trunks since a lot of the sedan cabs are very compact. I took a cab from the Palazzo to the airport and the bellman could only fit two suitcases in the trunk. I almost lost a large shopping bag full of stuff I had purchased while in Vegas because the bellman mistakingly put the bag on the front passenger seat of the taxi without informing me (there was no room in the trunk for it). One large pullman suitcase weighing 50 lbs. is also a lot more convenient for me vs. packing two suitcases at 25 lbs. each - I would not consider it.

I noticed that boarding took longer because so many people had carry-ons to store in the overheads. Also, there was more congestion in the aisles on arrival as those same people retrieved their bags. Wait at the carosel was markedly decreased!
